Marshall, Illinois sits at the crossroads of I-70 and the Old National Road. The community blends a progressive attitude with a rich history and tradition. Located in Clark County, Marshall is 20 miles west of Terre Haute, Indiana.


Marshall Community Unit School District C-2 is recognized as one of the top districts in the state. Nearby higher educational institutes include Eastern Illinois University, Indiana State University, Lincoln Trail Community College and St. Mary of the Woods.

Cork Medical Center provides family medical services, radiology and physical therapy.

The downtown district centers around the courthouse and features numerous antique shops. TRW Automotive is the largest employer in town. Marshall is also the site of the oldest continually operating hotel in Illinois, Archer House.


Entertainment includes events like Autumn Fest, Holly Days and Friday night summer concerts. Lincoln Trail State Park and Mill Creek Park offer nearby outdoor excitement, while downtown features seven buildings on the National Register of Historic Places.



Temperature extremes range from highs of 87 in July to lows of 15 in January on average. Marshall receives 37 inches of rain and 19 inches of snowfall with 91 days of measurable precipitation. The sun shines an average of 192 per year.


William B. Archer officially organized Marshall in 1835, eight years after the National Road reached this area. The city was named after U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Marshall and incorporated in 1873.
